I am Michael Zeevi, born in England but raised mostly in Israel. I'm a geek, atheist, and passionate about Linux, technology (especially if it's free/libre open-source software), privacy, cybersecurity, the natural sciences (physics and such), navigation and environmentalism.
Although I studied marine biotechnology, I somehow ended up happily making a career for myself in DevOps.
In my technical blog, I discuss and share tips, tricks, approaches, insights, thoughts, and experiences related to the technology and tools I use at home and at work, along with various topics surrounding them. Not as often as I'd like, admittedly.
Hobbies #
Apart from my passion for technology, I've collected (and occasionally abandoned) quite a few hobbies over the years. I'll try to list a few here that might make for interesting conversation starters!
- I like Chess - feel free to challenge me on Lichess.org!
- When it comes to music, I enjoy exploring underground, fringe, and experimental genres, mostly electronic. I used to be quite active in my local rave scene and DJing (see my old my old MixCloud profile). Metal is also wonderful, as are underground hip hop, punk, ambient, and many others.
- I enjoy gaming - I play Dota2 sometimes and enjoy watching its esports events.
- These days, my artistic expression mostly manifests itself through amateur smartphone photography. You can find some of it on my Pixelfed profile.
- Physical activities I've enjoyed include climbing (bouldering), SCUBA diving, skateboarding, and hiking. I'm also always happy to throw and catch a
Frisbeedisc. - Other offline interests include spinning (LED and fire staff), juggling (3-4 balls), speedcubing (see my underwhelming WCA profile), card magic, and a bit of guitar.
- My partner and I also have a dog (and a cat), whom we enjoy cuddling and walking, as well as a toddler boy and his baby sister. :3
